LCD Televisions

LCD televisions are so overrated. I don’t know what the hype is all about. Especially in India, where there is no high definition programming to talk of, atleast for the next 4-5 years anyway. But, you wouldn’t know going by the number of ads in the media (TV, newspapers, magazines) etc. Everyone wants you to pony up 50000, 100000 and more on the latest and sleekest TV.

And for what? Ever wonder, why they only seem to have a demo DVD playing on the LCD and not regular cable? Because, regular cable looks like crap on a LCD, that’s why. The colours don’t look natural and I saw major ghosting on a sports channel. This was on a Tatasky signal, which will be better than just about any signal you get from your cable operator. It’s great for watching DVD, but then you’d only be watching that maybe 5-10% of the time. The other 90% is spent watching regular TV and why pay 5 times the amount to get an inferior viewing experience? Just so that you can be the first one on the block to have the latest gadget?

Anyway, I was thinking of maybe buying one ahead of the World Cup, but I’ve decided to push it back for some time. Maybe, in a year’s time when a 32 inch would be closer to 30K. Definitely not at these prices.
